I have never used a harness for walking but i do use one for long distances in the car. The question of should your dog wear a harness or a collar is one that sparks debate among pet parents some believe collars are easier to put on and take off and that just may be true. Personally i would never attach a leash to any collar. An easy solution is to find a harness that can be put on without going over the dog s head.

If your dog is fine with wearing her harness once it s on but puts up a fight while you re trying to get it on her body it might have to do with it needing to go over her head. Some believe when their dog wears a collar the dog can wear it at all times and that may be beneficial if the dog has his identification tags on the collar. Besides choking tightness around a collar can lead to issues such as neck injuries hypothyroidism foreleg lameness eye and ear issues and excessive paw licking. A dog harness is a much safer way to walk your dog compared to a traditional dog collar.

I got my dog used to it by giving her all her meals for several days with her wearing the harness we didn t do anything else for some time until she got to associate the harness with one of her favourite activities eating.
