Ceramic brake systems in automotive applications do not generally use brake pads made in ceramic material. Carbon ceramic brake pads will not wear down as fast as the regular brake pads in similar driving conditions and because of the material composition of the carbon ceramic brakes the pads alone will wear down without any wear to the rotor. A ceramic brake pad is too harsh and produces excessive wear so in fact brake pads used with ceramic brake discs are made from organic compounds similar to those used with traditional iron brake discs. Finally carbon ceramic brakes are much cleaner and quieter than conventional steel brakes.

This is because the material they re made from is much less reactive than steel and iron due to the material s tightly bonded structure. The rotor of disc of the carbon ceramic brakes weighs less than cast iron rotors. Carbon ceramic brakes on the other hand are virtually immune to corrosion.
