To achieve the puddling effect add an extra 2 to 4 inches beyond the floor to your panels. This is by far the most dramatic of all the ways to hang curtains and the one that is the most tedious to keep clean. How high should you hang curtain rods. Don t scrimp on length.

If you re purchasing ready made drapes it will be a bit of a balancing act to determine what length to get and where to hang the rod. The curtain lengths make the ceilings seem taller and the room more polished.

However if you don t want your curtains to drag on the floor when you open and close them let them stop about an inch. This is the standard length for hanging curtains either hitting the floor exactly or hovering a half inch off the ground.
